To Your Door Service

It’s no secret. I love Farm Fresh Delivery. It’s been more than a year and I still get giddy and excited on Thursday afternoon when my bin arrives. I do the Fruit, Vegetable and Grocery bin – $25 in produce plus $10 in grocery. This week I got local breakfast sausage, dry lima beans, gorgeous green beans, zucchini, bananas, potatoes, bok choy, apples, oranges, local asparagus, peaches and local oyster mushrooms. All delivered right to my doorstep!

Since my discovery of Farm Fresh Delivery, CSAs, and now growing my own garden, my trips to the grocery are minimal. I only hit the aisles of Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Trader Joes or O’Malias about twice a month, and only when I need something particular for a recipe.

Farm Fresh Delivery is always the produce and comparable prices. They source as much organic and local as they can. People who know me may have heard me proclaim that they have the best avocados I’ve ever eater. Ever.

And fear not. If you order something like milk or yogurt, it comes in a cold bag with an ice pack. And they reuse all of their packaging (if you leave it in the bin). Seriously, how did I live pre-FFD?

With your Green Savings Indy coupon you will save 50% off your first bin! That’s a minimum of $17.50, which is more than the cost of the book. If you’ve been thinking about signing up, now is definitely time to do so.

Be Mine

I’ve been holding on to this little gem for too long, so now I’ll share one of my favorite breakfasts with you. It all starts with a Valentine Hill Farm Whole Wheat English Muffin. This is not your ordinary english muffin. There are no air holes or high fructose syrup (that’s right people – read the labels. Even english muffins contain the stuff). Valentine Hill Farm english muffins are hearty and filling. And Bill bakes them the night (wee hours of the morning) before the farmer’s market. Yum.

So, I toast my english muffin (in the oven because I don’t have a toaster), add a slice or two of my favorite cheese (Cabot Chili Lime or anything from a local farmer’s market), a few chunks of avocado (the ones from Farm Fresh Delivery are the best I’ve ever had!), and a scrambled egg from a local farmer’s market (optional, cuz sometimes I don’t even need the egg).

This breakfast is so delicious and filling. Seriously, I’m not ever hungry for lunch until after noon, which is not normal for me. Usually I’m thinking about lunch by 10 a.m.

Pop Star

Yes, I did watch American Idol last night, but that’s not where I got that subject line. It’s actually from my beverage of choice last night: Cream Soda from Soda Club.

A few months ago I learned about this soda pop system called Soda Stream. It’s a home soda maker with a variety of flavors. It comes with two reusable BPA-free bottles, which means no more bottles or cans to toss in the recycling bin (or, even worse, the landfill). The sodas do not contain high fructose corn syrup, but do contain sucralose and acesulfame.

I don’t drink soda often, but have a weakness for root beer and cream soda. I tried the cream soda for the first time last night and it was delish. While the Soda Stream seems like an unnecessary gadget in the kitchen, it definitely reduces packaging from my occasional indulgence. If your household goes through a lot of 2-liters, cans or bottles of soda, this is worth the investment!
