Be Mine

I’ve been holding on to this little gem for too long, so now I’ll share one of my favorite breakfasts with you. It all starts with a Valentine Hill Farm Whole Wheat English Muffin. This is not your ordinary english muffin. There are no air holes or high fructose syrup (that’s right people – read the labels. Even english muffins contain the stuff). Valentine Hill Farm english muffins are hearty and filling. And Bill bakes them the night (wee hours of the morning) before the farmer’s market. Yum.

So, I toast my english muffin (in the oven because I don’t have a toaster), add a slice or two of my favorite cheese (Cabot Chili Lime or anything from a local farmer’s market), a few chunks of avocado (the ones from Farm Fresh Delivery are the best I’ve ever had!), and a scrambled egg from a local farmer’s market (optional, cuz sometimes I don’t even need the egg).

This breakfast is so delicious and filling. Seriously, I’m not ever hungry for lunch until after noon, which is not normal for me. Usually I’m thinking about lunch by 10 a.m.

Feel Like a Nut

When I picked up a Feel Good Foods granola bar at the farmer’s market, he slipped me a sample of his top-secret new recipe-in-the-works granola bar. It has sunflower and pumpkin seeds, kasha, tahini and spices. Yum! I’m huge on food texture and it had this really interesting chewy crunch that completely made the experience. You’ve got to watch for Feel Good Foods at farmer’s markets, local shops and Farm Fresh Delivery. The granola bars are totally worth the two bucks. And they’re Buy One, Get One Free with your Green Savings Indy coupon!!

Brandon did tell me that he likely won’t be at the Carmel Farmer’s Market (like his coupon in Green Savings Indy says). Just look for him at other markets – I’m trying to convince him to come out to Chateau Thomas farmer’s market and the Wednesday market at City Market.

Pop Art

I picked up a couple treats from Blackbird Pies on Saturday at the Indy Winter Farmer’s Market. They were cute little rectangular pastries called…you guessed it…Pop Arts! As if the name wasn’t clever enough, I was totally sold when they told me that one of them contained Nutella and strawberry! I’m a sucker for Nutella…

The pastry was delish! It tasted wholesome and natural – not overly sweet like some dough. The filling was a great blend, as expected. Of course, I loved the Nutella, but I must say, I was very impressed with the plum chutney (yes, I had two). I popped it in the toaster, which made it perfect!

The Blackbird Pies gals really know what they’re doing! You know, I love to make quiche, but I don’t do pie crusts. I wonder if they could make frozen pie crusts…
